Welcome to Loxley
Did you know that in 1870, a man from Chicago by the name of John Loxley established a lumber camp in the area? The lumber camp included a commissary and saw mill. The men that traveled with Loxley settled in what later became the town of Loxley. The train depot opened on May 5, 1906, on the Fort Morgan Line. Before that, there were only wagon roads to Bay Minette. Also in 1906, the Loxley post office was opened by Octavia Sauer. She served as the postmistress and depot agent. By 1920, the businesses in Loxley consisted of an egg store, grocery store, two general merchandise stores, train depot, drug store, telegraph office, land office, repair garage, post office, bank, hotel, butcher shop, orange packing shed, cement block plant, a blacksmith, a feed and lumber store. A grammar school was built in 1925. The Town of Loxley incorporated in March 1957.
Today, Loxley is the most central community in Baldwin County, and is the home of the county’s Strawberry Festival and gateway to the area’s other prime destinations. Every year, thousands of beach-goers travel through Loxley on their way to the lovely white sand beaches of Gulf Shores. Whether you live in Loxley or you’re just passing through, stop by the Sea & Steak Restaurant for the best food in town.
The food was superb and the service was amazing. I wish I could remember the waitress’s name, we had a good conversation with her and adored her!!!!
Great service, delicious food, excellent prices
My wife had lunch here a couple of months ago and had the hamburger steak with gravy & mashed potatoes, and she went on for days afterwards about how good it was. So we decided today to stop in for lunch so I could give it a try. She got the meat loaf in tomato gravy and I got the chicken fried steak & gravy and we both got mashed potatoes & gravy and field peas with snaps & Lima beans for sides. Our son got a bacon cheeseburger with fries. All of the food was excellent! The lady chef served us at the buffet and you could see she takes pride in her home style cooking. Best mashed potatoes and beans/peas I’ve ever had in a restaurant, and the meat loaf and chicken fried steak were incredibly delicious. Her gravies were awesome too, especially when sopped up with her delicious cornbread muffins. Didn’t try the greens, but they looked and smelled fantastic, will try those next time. Our son devoured the hand-made cheeseburger like it was his job and said it too was awesome! Service was exceptional and everyone was very friendly, and at one point the cook asked us if everything was good and we told her it was excellent, and she gave us all a big hug! What a sweet lady!
The restaurant is clean and tastefully decorated, and the prices are unbelievably low for the quality of the food you get. Delicious, home-style meals for what a burger combo costs at a fast food joint. You can’t beat this place!
This is now on our ‘Go-to’ list of places we will be going back to. A solid 5 stars and very highly recommended!
Love this place!
Extremely friendly people work here. The home cooked food is delicious. Lunch specials are $10 for a meat, 2 vegetables, dessert & a drink. Well worth it! Love this place
